Title: Individual Support Specialist I
Reports to: Service Coordinator, Developmental Disabilities
Pay Grade: 6
JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for participating as a team member carrying out individual service plans for people at risk for or experiencing a developmental disability.
1. Ability to provide skill training, monitoring, supervision, and support as indicated in treatment/support plans. Individual Support Specialists provide these services in partnership with families and other team members.
2. Has strong written/oral communication skills with diverse populations including; families, team members and the public.
3. Contributes to the professional reputation of the agency.
Must have a high school diploma or GED. Must be at least 18 years or older and be able to pass a criminal background check under agency guidelines and state regulations. Experience working with individuals experiencing disabilities preferred. The ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certification. Valid Alaska State Driver’s license, liability insurance and reliable vehicle are necessary.

b) Accesses resources necessary to implement the individual service plan.
c) Implements plan in a manner sensitive to the individual, family and community.
d) Makes adaptations according to specific developmental, mental health and medical needs.
e) Maintains mutually respectful boundaries with families.
f) Interacts with other service providers in a professional manner.
2. Has strong written/oral communication skills with diverse populations including; families, team members and the public (KSA)
Function: Communicates with families in a positive manner.
Standards:
a) Seeks regular feedback from families regarding the effectiveness of services.
b) Adapts to communication styles of individuals from different cultural backgrounds.
c) Is dependable and follows through on commitments.
Function: Demonstrates and discusses their job with other less experienced staff.
Standards:
a) Demonstrates and discusses how they do their jobs with other staff when asked by their supervisor.
Function: Written communication (reports, documentation, time logs) is clear concise and timely.
Standards:
a) Time logs, progress notes, and other required paperwork is legible, and submitted on time.
b) Progress related to the individual service plan is clearly documented and submitted to supervisor monthly.
3. Contributes to the professional reputation of the agency.
Function: Represents the agency in a professional manner.
Standards:
a) Is aware of and adheres to interagency agreements.
b) Maintains neat, professional appearance and work area.
Function: Adheres to all agency policies and procedures.
Standards:
a) Locates and refers to agency policy/procedure manual.
b) Asks for clarification regarding policies/procedures from supervisor.
Function: Adheres to all State and Federal laws and regulations
Standards:
a) Locates and refers to applicable laws/regulations.
b) Asks for clarification re-laws/regulations from supervisor as needed.
